Amherst, N.Y. — October 2 — Ellicott Creek Volunteer Fire Company invited local residents to its yearly open house, which featured an evening centered on fire service education, equipment displays, and community engagement.
The event provided residents with the chance to meet firefighters, learn about the individuals behind the protective gear, and see the tools used during emergency operations. It also helped deepen the bond between the volunteer fire company and the community it serves.
Open houses allow fire departments to explain their day-to-day activities, introduce residents to emergency equipment, and share important fire safety information. These events also offer a chance to talk about volunteer opportunities and motivate community members to consider joining the fire service.
Ellicott Creek Volunteer Fire Company has been a fully volunteer-run organization since 1945. Its members assist with firefighting, equipment handling, emergency responses, and various other department responsibilities. The company also provides training for new volunteers, including those who have no prior experience in the fire service.
Department members expressed their gratitude to the attendees who visited the station, explored the equipment, and supported the event. The company also acknowledged the members and volunteers who contributed to organizing and running the open house.
The event emphasized the importance of community support in maintaining volunteer emergency services.
Public outreach helps residents get to know their local firefighters and allows departments to cultivate stronger relationships with the people they serve.
