Slingerlands Firefighters Welcomed Families for Fire Safety Open House

Slingerlands, N.Y. — October 3 — The Slingerlands Fire Department hosted a community day and open house, inviting families to participate in various activities. The event included engaging activities for children and informative sessions for adults on fire safety.

Children had the chance to view fire truck equipment, review materials on fire prevention, and try on scaled-down firefighter gear. They also got to interact with a real fire hose, spraying water under the guidance of firefighters. These hands-on experiences familiarized young visitors with firefighting equipment and gave them a better understanding of the work done by emergency responders.

Adults had the opportunity to talk with fire department personnel about creating home escape plans, the importance of smoke detectors, and general fire safety tips.

Firefighters emphasized the need to plan escape routes in advance and to ensure that smoke alarms are properly installed and functioning in homes.

The event ended with a live fire demonstration, where attendees could observe how firefighters control and extinguish a fire.

This provided a practical look at firefighting operations and increased awareness of fire response procedures.

In addition, department members wore breast cancer awareness shirts to show support for those affected by the disease.
