Westfield Firefighters Train on Hose Line Advancement in Stairwells

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Westfield, N.J. — October 6 — Tour 3 of the Westfield Fire Department recently practiced acquired structure training that covered hose line handling, stairwell procedures, and moving handlines through a building.

Firefighters trained during the exercise by stretching hose lines, navigating around corners and obstacles, eliminating kinks, and positioning the lines for effective structural use. These abilities are crucial when teams need to maneuver hoses in confined corridors and staircases during a building fire.

Teamwork, clear communication, and proper technique are required for advancing the hose line. Firefighters need to coordinate to handle the hose’s weight and flexibility, guiding it smoothly through narrow areas while avoiding snags or blockages.
