Rush Fire Department Practiced Water Supply and Evacuation Operations

Lawton, PA — October 6 — The Rush Fire Department took part in a mutual aid training exercise organized by the Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Company & Rescue Squad at the Choconut Creek Apartments.

The training occurred from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and included Engine 3 and its personnel. The exercise started with a simulated automatic alarm that escalated into a real-life room-and-contents fire, enabling participating departments to practice their response to an evolving emergency.

Fire units stationed themselves at a nearby elementary school before responding at set intervals. This arrangement allowed crews to simulate emergency dispatches and practice coordination with neighboring departments.

During the exercise, Engine 3 was responsible for providing water supply while other units carried out simulated resident evacuations, fire suppression efforts, and tanker shuttle procedures. The training enabled firefighters to practice their assigned roles while working with mutual aid partners.

These training sessions help firefighters enhance communication, review operational procedures, and become more familiar with the crews and equipment they may encounter during real incidents. Water supply and tanker shuttle operations are particularly important when incidents require more water than a single unit can supply.

The exercise also gave individual firefighters the chance to practice their skills in a controlled environment and helped departments evaluate how their resources function together.

The Rush Fire Department expressed its gratitude to the Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Company & Rescue Squad for hosting the exercise. The departments continue to develop working relationships aimed at supporting coordinated emergency responses in their communities.
