Oakdale, PA - Volunteer firefighters and rescue specialists from Oakdale Hose Company dedicated their entire monthly training curriculum through September to comprehensive rescue operations, culminating in complex scenario-based exercises in Allegheny County.

Throughout September 2026, members progressed through a rigorous series of disciplines designed to sharpen both urban and wilderness technical rescue skills. Training modules opened with elevated rescue evolutions, focusing on rapidly placing and climbing ground ladders for upper-story victim removals, paired with rigging high-angle rope rescue haul systems, anchor points, and descent controls.

Field instruction also extended to hydrological emergencies, where swiftwater rescue trainees took to local waterways to execute practical drills, applying water-reading techniques, self-rescue swims, and tensioned-line operations in active currents.

The month-long training concluded on September 30 with an intensive vehicle rescue evolution simulating a high-mechanism collision. Volunteer crews tackled a scenario featuring an automobile resting unstable on its side with a patient partially ejected through the passenger-side window.

Firefighters established stabilization struts and cribbing, managed patient cervical-spine control under precarious angles, and deployed specialized extrication hydraulic tools to safely free and package the simulated victim, validating their inter-disciplinary rescue readiness across Oakdale and surrounding Allegheny County communities.
