Old Mystic Fire Department Mourns Longtime District Board Leader Carl Strand Jr.

Old Mystic, Conn. — September 21 — The Old Mystic Fire Department is grieving the loss of Carl Strand Jr., Vice President of the District Board. who devoted over fifty years to the department and the community it serves. 

Strand was a member of the Old Mystic Fire District Board for over 50 years, serving more than 30 of those as president. Department members gave him credit for offering steady leadership and assisting in steering the organization through significant transformations. 

The department stated that Strand played a key role in developing Old Mystic Fire Department’s current facilities, including helping to lead the construction of its headquarters and Station 1. The department stated that his work contributed to its shift into the combined fire department it runs now. 

In addition to his role on the District Board, Strand was also remembered for being a vigorous supporter of the department and its staff. Fire officials stated that he always backed modernization, expansion, and new opportunities while maintaining a focus on the department’s commitment to serving the community. 

The Old Mystic Fire Department noted that Strand’s impact reached beyond the department’s buildings and board decisions. Members regarded him as a trusted voice whose participation played a key role in shaping the organization across many years. 

The department conveyed its condolences to Strand’s family and acknowledged his many years of dedicated service. Officials stated that his contributions will be preserved as part of the department’s history and will continue to shape future generations of its members.
