East Haddam Firefighters Strengthened Vehicle Fire Skills

East Haddam, CT — September 8 — Members of the East Haddam Fire Department carried out their initial monthly drill in September, with a focus on handling liquid propane gas (LPG) incidents and vehicle fires.

During the practical session, firefighters worked on various skills, such as correctly positioning and moving fire hoses, safely securing propane tanks, and using wide-angle fog streams during LPG-related emergencies.

The training also involved participants from the department's Junior Firefighter program, enabling younger members to take part in selected exercises under the watchful guidance of experienced personnel.

The exercise took place at the Colchester Fire & EMS facility, which offers a controlled environment specifically designed for emergency response training.

Colchester Fire & EMS functions as both a career and volunteer department, providing fire protection, emergency medical services, and responses to various types of hazards for the local community. Their training facilities include a dedicated training center, a burn house, and a flashover simulator.

The East Haddam Fire Department operates from three different company stations, including Company 1 located at 440 Town Street.

The department's main objective is to safeguard lives and property during fire incidents, emergencies, and disasters.Their training and equipment are also shared through mutual-aid agreements with other departments.

This drill allowed firefighters to practice hose deployment, propane safety procedures, and vehicle fire response techniques in a realistic and collaborative training setup.
