Winsted Firefighters Completed Hands-On Ladder Training

Winsted, CT — September 22 — Members of the Winsted Fire Department participated in a ladder operations training session, which covered both ground ladders and the aerial device on Truck 11. The training provided hands-on experience with placing, moving, and operating ladders, as well as performing aerial operations. Practicing these tasks repeatedly helped firefighters become more familiar with the equipment and strengthened the teamwork and coordination required during real emergencies.
The training also featured a friendly competition among the firefighters.
Captain Mike LaMere organized the challenge, which added an element of competition while ensuring that the emphasis remained on teamwork, proper equipment handling, and safe operating procedures.
Truck 11, the department's 2024 Spartan/Smeal tower ladder, is equipped with a 100-foot aerial device.
The vehicle is stationed at the department's headquarters located at 27 Elm Street.
The Winsted Fire Department has a long-standing tradition of ladder operations, with its aerial ladder company dating back to 1879.
Currently, the department operates from three stations and offers a range of emergency services, including fire suppression, technical rescue, hazardous materials response, water rescue, and other specialized services. All firefighters receive training and certification through Connecticut's Commission on Fire Prevention and Control, and training programs are coordinated by the department's Training Division.
The training session highlighted the value of regular practice, ensuring that firefighters are prepared to respond safely and effectively to emergency calls.
