Bay Shore Firefighters Deploy Aerial Ladder to Free Seagull Trapped in Sunrise Highway Wires

Bay Shore, NY - Firefighters deployed an aerial ladder along Sunrise Highway on Saturday afternoon to execute a technical animal rescue after a seagull became tangled in high-voltage utility wires in southern Suffolk County.

On September 5, the Bay Shore Fire Department was requested by the Suffolk County Police Department to assist with a trapped bird suspended over the roadway.

Operating under the command of 1st Assistant Chief Nick Danza, firefighters positioned their aerial apparatus beneath the overhead utility corridor. Responders extended the aerial ladder toward the live wires to access the distressed bird. Firefighters freed the entangled seagull and brought it down to ground level, transferring the bird to wildlife rehabilitation specialists for care.
