Orland Fire Department Remembered 9/11

Orland, ME — September 11 — The Orland Fire Department joined communities throughout Maine and the country in honoring the victims and first responders who lost their lives during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The 25th anniversary of the attacks was commemorated on September 11, 2026, which marked 25 years since four airplanes were hijacked and used in attacks in New York City, at the Pentagon, and in Pennsylvania.

A total of 2,977 individuals were killed in those attacks, including 343 firefighters and 72 law enforcement officers, as stated in the State of Maine’s 2026 First Responders Day proclamation.

For those working in fire and emergency services, the anniversary served as a meaningful reminder of the firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians, and other responders who went to work that morning.

Maine also honored six local residents who were among those who died in the attacks.

September 11 was recognized as First Responders Day in Maine, with the state acknowledging the service and dedication of firefighters, police officers, dispatchers, paramedics, search and rescue teams, and other public safety personnel who work to protect their communities.

The Orland Fire Department, located at 14 Fire House Ave., continued to provide service to the Orland community while upholding the tradition of remembering those who gave their lives in service to others.
