Pownal Brush Truck Earns Honors at Adams Alert Hose 150th Anniversary

During the Adams Alert Hose Company’s 150th anniversary celebration, a Pownal Fire Department vehicle added to its legacy by winning the award for Best Appearing Brush/ Utility Truck in the parade.
The Pownal Fire Department noted that its Pumper 1-4 had previously functioned as a brush truck during the 1984 fire that destroyed the Adams Print Works. Over four decades later, the vehicle returned to Adams and once again bore the name “ Adams' brush truck” as part of the 150th anniversary festivities.
On September 12, 2026, the Adams Alert Hose Company celebrated its 150th anniversary with a parade, which was part of the annual Adams Street Fair. About 30 fire departments took part, sending their vehicles and personnel through downtown Adams.
