— October 28, 2026 — Firefighters carried on ground efforts at the Cherry Plain wildfire for a third day, as mutual-aid teams operated along the New York-Massachusetts border.

Four Pownal firefighters joined the group working on the fire from the Williamstown, Massachusetts, side. Brush 1-7 and UTV 17-1 were deployed by the crew to assist ground firefighters.

The crew kept working through the woods, reinforcing fire lines and dealing with active fire areas. Firefighters had to work on foot over rugged terrain, supported by brush units and utility terrain vehicles in hard-to-reach areas.

The wildfire started in Berlin, New York on October 25, and moved into Massachusetts. Fire departments and state agencies from New York, Massachusetts, and Vermont joined the response.
