Story No. 091721104

Four members of the Seminole County Fire Department recently deployed this summer to Montana through the Florida Fire Service to help with wildfires in that area.

Seminole County Fire Department personnel FF/P Ryan Hart, FF/P Kevin Buckner, FF Kevin Beavers and FF Joshua Evertsen deployed to Montana at various times this summer.

Seminole County Fire Department members who obtain their red card each year (certification for federal wildland incident deployment) and meet the requirements as a wildland firefighter are able to sign up with the Florida Fire Service in order to become part-time employees for the federal government who respond to declared states of emergency and wildfires all across the country. Some things the crews were assigned with included structure protection, wildfire line construction, firing operations, direct and indirect fire attack, mop up, and even beginning restoration to devastated land to avoid future catastrophes such as mudslides when precipitation returns.
