Junior Police Academy Visits Barnegat Light Emergency Services

— August 20 — During their annual trip to Barnegat Light, young members of the Long Beach Township Junior Police Academy devoted part of the day to learning about emergency services.

The children, who range in age from 10 to 13, toured the Barnegat Light Volunteer Fire Co. as part of a hands-on community-service program. Local volunteer firefighters hosted the visit, giving the participants a chance to learn more about the work that emergency-service personnel do.

The day started with a tour of the U.S. Coast Guard Station, and an afternoon visit to the Barnegat Light First Aid Squad was planned afterward.

The Junior Police Academy aims to expose young participants to various aspects of law enforcement, public safety and community service. Programs like this also let young people meet emergency responders and discover the roles that different agencies play in keeping their communities safe.

The visit drew together public-safety organizations from throughout the Long Beach Island area, among them the Long Beach Township Police Department and emergency-service organizations in Barnegat Light.
