Gary Greves Was Honored for Five Decades of Fire Service

Watchung, N.J. — August 20 — The Watchung Volunteer Fire Department honored former Chief Gary Greves for his 55 years of dedicated service to both the department and the Watchung community during a borough council meeting.
Greves was acknowledged by Mayor Jubin, Congressman Tom Kean, and members of the Borough Council for his long-standing contributions and leadership.
Other firefighters also attended the event to celebrate this important milestone.
According to the Watchung Fire Department’s historical records, Greves served as chief in 1986.
His name is also listed among the department’s life members in records from the New Jersey State Firemen’s Association.
The department's history dates back to 1910 and has remained a 100% volunteer organization.
Its members receive firefighter training and other emergency response instruction, supporting both the Watchung and surrounding communities.
The borough’s August 20 council agenda specifically featured a proclamation to recognize Greves for his 55 years of service.
This recognition emphasized the commitment needed to gain experience, train new volunteers, and maintain a volunteer fire department. Greves’ more than five decades of service played a major role in shaping the history of Watchung’s fire service.
