Somerville Firefighter Completed Firefighter I Training

Somerville, N.J. — September 2 — Probationary member Nicole Fox successfully completed the Firefighter I program at the Somerset County Fire Academy, having spent 260 hours in both classroom and practical training, as reported by the Somerville Fire Department.

Fox was chosen by her fellow trainees to deliver a speech during the graduation event.

In her address, she explained her motivation for becoming a firefighter and reflected on her experiences during the training. Chief and Deputy 57 from the Somerville Fire Department attended the ceremony as representatives of the department.

The Somerville Fire Department’s involvement in formal firefighter training is part of a long-standing tradition aimed at preparing emergency responders.

The department has served the community since 1835 and has maintained a volunteer structure throughout its history. It operates from the Public Safety Complex located at 85 North Gaston Ave.and handles more than 650 fire calls annually, according to department records.

The Somerset County Emergency Services Training Academy offers Firefighter I training as part of its broader firefighter education programs.

To earn a certificate of completion, students must attend all sessions as required by academy regulations.

Fox’s graduation symbolized the completion of another important phase in her journey as a firefighter.

The department acknowledged the extensive training and preparation needed before a new member is ready to serve on an operational crew.
