Somerset Firefighters Marked Labor Day With Service

Somerset, N.J. — September 7 — Somerset Fire & Rescue Co.No.1 celebrated Labor Day by honoring the efforts of firefighters, emergency responders, and other workers who played a key role in keeping the community running smoothly.

The department is based at 14 Hollywood Ave.

and serves Franklin Township as part of Fire District No.1.According to the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety, the department is a volunteer organization with 25 firefighters covering a jurisdiction of approximately 23 square miles, which has a population of about 25,000.

The department responds to a variety of emergency situations, including fires, vehicle accidents, rescue missions, and mutual-aid calls.

In 2025, Somerset Fire & Rescue received 1,123 service requests, which included fires, crashes, alarms, and other incidents.

Fire District No.

1 also includes three other volunteer fire companies, and the four departments work together across a 23.18-square-mile area.The district has approximately 140 volunteer members across its stations.

For emergency service workers, Labor Day is not just about the work done during emergencies.

It also acknowledges the ongoing efforts such as training, equipment maintenance, station duties, staffing, and the preparation required for future calls.

The holiday offered a chance to thank the firefighters and other workers who have consistently supported their communities throughout the year.
