Rocky Hill Fire Department Observed Labor Day

Rocky Hill, N.J. — September 7 — The Rocky Hill Fire Department celebrated Labor Day by honoring the efforts of firefighters, emergency responders, and other workers who have supported their communities throughout the year.

Located at 154 Washington Street, the Rocky Hill Fire Department has been serving the borough and nearby areas for over a century.

Its history dates back to 1902, when the Rocky Hill Hook and Ladder Company No.1 was established.The department's first piece of equipment was a hand-drawn Seagraves hook-and-ladder truck, which cost $370.

Over time, the department transitioned from using hand-drawn tools to motorized vehicles and advanced firefighting equipment.

In July 2024, the department introduced a new Engine 53, further enhancing their equipment and response abilities.

Rocky Hill firefighters respond to more than 200 calls annually, covering a range of incidents such as structure fires, vehicle rescues, and other emergencies.

They also participate in training for fire suppression, search and rescue, rapid intervention, and swift-water rescue techniques.

Labor Day offered a chance to acknowledge the work done before, during, and after emergency responses.

For volunteer firefighters, this work also involves training sessions, equipment inspections, station responsibilities, and ensuring continuous readiness.

The holiday also honored the people who help maintain the operation of communities and ensure that emergency services are always prepared.
