North Plainfield Firefighters Honored the Fallen on 9/11

North Plainfield, N.J. — September 11 — North Plainfield Professional Firefighters, Local 2958, participated in a silent procession and memorial service to commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.The event honored the people who lost their lives in the attacks and acknowledged first responders who faced long-term health issues linked to their work at the disaster sites.

The ceremony offered local firefighters a chance to remember the 343 FDNY firefighters who died while responding at the World Trade Center.

The International Association of Firefighters also noted that the attacks caused ongoing health concerns for firefighters and other responders who were exposed to harmful dust and other dangers during rescue and recovery efforts.

The North Plainfield Fire Department was based at 8 Lincoln Place and provided fire suppression, prevention, emergency medical care, and related services to the community.

The borough also included a September 11 silent procession as part of its community activities.

The 25th anniversary observance linked North Plainfield firefighters with the ongoing tradition of honoring the fallen, supporting their families, and recognizing those dealing with illnesses related to 9/11.

For the emergency services community, the ceremony served as a moment to reflect on the fallen and to carry forward the lessons of September 11 into future training and service.
