CHAUTAUQUA, NY — Volunteer firefighters assembled on a member’s rural property on Tuesday, deploying frontline aerial and ground apparatus to execute realistic structural ladder operations on an agricultural building.

On September 1, the Chautauqua Fire Department conducted a comprehensive, multi-phase training evolution focused on complex ladder proficiencies and structural roof tactics. Utilizing the member's private property to mirror the district's distinctive rural layout, crews operated directly on the roof of a large barn to practice advanced roof ladder placement, ground ladder throws, and aerial ladder truck maneuvers.

Department officers utilized the hands-on session to reinforce broader operational fundamentals beyond individual tool handling. The evolutions challenged firefighters to evaluate optimal apparatus placement on uneven terrain, establish clear incident command communication, identify structural integrity hazards, and coordinate ventilation and egress paths as unified operating teams.
