New Pierce Pumper Moves Through Production

The manufacture of a new Pierce pumper for the City of New Brunswick Fire Department is still ongoing, with key parts starting to take shape.

The equipment is a Pierce Saber Pumper, which is classified as a stock unit under Job No. 45782 for the City of New Brunswick, according to the most recent production data from Fire & Safety Services. August saw the posting of the production listing, which keeps track of the equipment as it progresses through the building process.

According to recent manufacturing reports, the pump house has been staged, the body has finished fabrication, and the cab has finished fabrication. During that upgrade, the frame was not accessible for taking pictures.

The latest department update dated September 1 reported that the body had been painted and the cab had been prepared and moved into the paint area. The department also reported that specified intake valves had been ordered and that the final graphics package was being reviewed.

As production continues, the chassis, cab, body, pump house and other components will move through the remaining stages before the completed apparatus is delivered to New Brunswick. The new pumper will eventually become part of the city's emergency-response fleet. The New Brunswick Fire Department handles structure fires, vehicle crashes, rescues, hazardous-material incidents and other emergencies and works within Middlesex County's mutual-aid system when additional resources are needed
