Fulfilling the Full Mission: Endicott Crews Safely Retrieve Stranded Pet from Deep Void

ENDICOTT, NY — Firefighters recently put their technical access skills to work on a specialized public service assignment, safely rescuing a household pet trapped deep inside a structural void space.

On August 25, 2026, personnel from the Endicott Fire Department in Broome County were dispatched to a non-emergency public assist call involving a cat that had fallen more than ten feet into a confined stairwell void and could not climb out. Responding crews carefully navigated the tight space, gained access to the lower void, and successfully retrieved the uninjured animal before returning it to its grateful owner.
