Newburgh, NY - The City of Newburgh FD held their 9/11 memorial ceremony on Park Place, September 11th.
Chief of the Department F. Spinelli welcomed everyone while Newburgh Firefighters Pipe and Drums led the Newburgh FD color guard to begin the ceremony. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, followed by Newburgh FD Chaplain Deacon Peter Haight giving the opening prayer.
Special guest speaker, Newburgh Chief of Police Anthony Geraci, spoke about the day of 9/11 and the many trips made to the site to recover bodies. Mary McTamaney, City Historian, spoke of how the hijacked planes followed the Hudson River south until they turned towards the city. Mayor Torrance Harvey, Dave McTamaney and Chief Spinelli read the names of people from Orange County who were victims of 9/11.
A closing prayer was read, followed by Firefighters Pipe and Drums playing Amazing Grace to end the ceremony.
