Saddle River, NJ - Firefighters navigated pitch-black obstacles and simulated high-stress emergency bailouts Wednesday evening during an intensive SCBA and firefighter-rescue training session.
On September 9, members of the Saddle River Fire Department traveled to Mahwah Fire Company 4 in Bergen County to run through a specialized mask confidence course. The rigorous drill challenged firefighters to maneuver through constricted spaces, entanglements, and zero-visibility corridors while strictly monitoring their self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) consumption and practicing vital air management protocols.
The evolution progressed directly into advanced Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) operations. Firefighters drilled on locating downed and disoriented crew members, assessing transfill air lines, packaging trapped victims, and executing rapid fireground extractions.
