Hydraulic Mastery: Firefighters Barnes and Gilmartin Secure Driver-Operator Certifications at Good Will

Burlington City, NJ - Two dedicated firefighters achieved official apparatus driver-operator certifications Monday evening following an intensive, hands-on drafting and master stream pumping evolution.

On August 31, members of Good Will Fire Company 1 in Warren County assembled along the banks of the Delaware River to complete vital qualification drills. The training focused on mastering complex hydraulic operations, drafting from static water sources, and coordinating multi-apparatus water delivery.

Under the direct supervision of Past Chief Wolfinger, Firefighter Barnes operated Engine 21-61 to successfully draft water directly from the Delaware River, establishing a reliable static supply and pumping water under pressure to Ladder 21-69. Firefighter Gilmartin took command of the ladder truck's pump and aerial systems, effectively flowing water through the bucket nozzle.

The successful joint evolution demonstrated complete technical proficiency in pump pressure calculations, vacuum drafting mechanics, and elevated master stream deployment. Following the drill, the Chief and Assistant Chief officially signed off on Firefighter Barnes and Firefighter Gilmartin as certified apparatus drivers for Engine 21-61 and Ladder 21-69, respectively, strengthening the department's frontline operational capabilities.
