Jefferson Volunteers Completed Hands-On Ladder Training

JEFFERSON, ME — September 3 — Jefferson Fire & Rescue held a ladder training session at their department station, where both male and female volunteer firefighters practiced the proper and safe use of fire service ladders.

The practical exercise allowed the team to review techniques for handling, positioning, and operating ladders safely.

Regular training helps firefighters keep their skills sharp, which can be essential during structure fires, rescue missions, and other emergency situations.The Maine Fire Service Institute includes ladder training as part of its Firefighter I and II courses, alongside instruction on firefighter safety, equipment operation, and search and rescue procedures.

Jefferson Fire & Rescue has consistently followed a routine training schedule, with firefighters participating in drills throughout the year.

According to the town’s 2024 annual report, the department’s members completed over 2,000 hours of training and drills during the year.The department also reported having 26 members, including 23 firefighters and three EMTs.

The training session on September 3 emphasized the importance of regular practice and safe ladder operations for volunteer firefighters.
