Bristol Department Honored the Lives Lost on September 11

BRISTOL, ME — September 11 — Bristol, Maine Fire and Rescue honored September 11, 2001, and the individuals who were lost during the terrorist attacks in New York City, at the Pentagon, and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.The attacks resulted in the deaths of 2,977 people, including 343 firefighters and 60 law enforcement officers in New York.Thousands of firefighters, police officers, emergency medical services personnel, and other workers participated in the rescue and recovery efforts.

For fire and rescue workers, the anniversary was a reminder of the importance of proper training, effective communication, reliable equipment, and teamwork during large-scale emergencies.

Bristol Fire & Rescue has consistently supported its community through fire incidents, emergency medical services, and other emergency calls.In 2025, the department handled 463 calls and spent over 900 hours on training and other department-related activities.

On September 11, Bristol Fire & Rescue paid tribute to those who were lost, their families, survivors, and the responders who continued to serve in the years that followed.
