Skowhegan Fire Department Remembers 9/11

On Friday, the Skowhegan Fire Department took a moment to thank the first responders who responded to the call and to mourn the lives lost in the September 11, 2001 attacks.

In particular, the department honored the 343 FDNY firemen who lost their lives while helping others. 2,977 individuals were murdered in the attacks, including 343 firemen and paramedics from New York City, according to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.

Along with the families and communities whose lives were altered, Skowhegan firemen also honored the police officers, EMS personnel, military personnel, and others who responded that day. The Skowhegan Fire Department provides 24-hour fire protection and also handles services including medical first response, extrication, hazardous materials incidents, technical rescue and water rescue.
