In honor of those who perished in the 2001 attacks, Orrington Fire & Rescue members participated in a September 11 commemorative gathering at East Orrington Congregational Church on Friday.
The occasion commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, which claimed the lives of 2,977 people, including 343 members of the New York Fire Department, 23 New York City police officers, and 37 Port Authority police officers.
The anniversary continues to serve as a reminder to members of the fire and EMS community of the bravery and selflessness displayed by the first responders who responded to the call that day. On Friday, communities throughout commemorated the 25th anniversary with rituals and moments of remembrance. Orrington Fire & Rescue thanked the church for bringing the community together to remember those who were lost, those who responded and the many people whose lives were changed by the attacks.
