Mastering the Waterways: Greenwich and LAC Fire Crews Run Joint Cohansey River Operations

GREENWICH, NJ — Firefighters took to the local waterways Wednesday evening to refine high-stakes water rescue tactics and master the challenging dynamics of the local river system.

On August 19, personnel from Greenwich Township Fire & Rescue joined forces with the Lower Alloways Creek Fire Department in Cumberland County for a comprehensive marine training evolution on the Cohansey River.

Operating from rescue vessels, crews focused heavily on tactical boat handling, rapid water rescue maneuvers, and systematic search-and-recovery search patterns. Firefighters specifically navigated the river's swift tidal currents and shifting depths, gaining vital hands-on experience and spatial familiarity to ensure rapid, coordinated, and safe marine operations whenever emergency water responses are dispatched.
