China Village Fire Remembers 9/11

As the country commemorates the 25th anniversary of the attacks, the China Village Volunteer Fire Department is paying tribute to the victims and first responders of September 11, 2001.

The letter from the department honored the 2,977 individuals who perished, including flight crews and passengers, employees who showed up for work that morning, and families whose lives were irrevocably altered.

Additionally, firefighters paid tribute to the firefighters, police enforcement, EMS, dispatchers, military, and other responders that responded to the call that day. 343 FDNY firemen were among the dead. In recognition of the sacrifices made by responders following the attacks, Maine Governor Janet Mills declared September 11, 2026, to be First Responders Day in Maine. The department said the anniversary is an opportunity to remember the courage and sacrifice of those who responded and to keep their families in the thoughts of the community.

Twenty-five years later, the department emphasized that the victims and their sacrifices have not been forgotten.

The China Village Volunteer Fire Department is one of three fire departments serving the Town of China. The department operates from its station on Causeway Road.
