Thomaston Firefighters Applied Skills at Debris Fire

Thomaston, ME — August 20 — Thomaston Fire & EMS crews responded to a report of an outside debris fire on Thursday. Engine 3, an ambulance, and Car 3 were dispatched to the scene. The fire was successfully extinguished, and no sign of it spreading to other equipment was found at the location.

Firefighters Bouchard and Spearin, who were participating in the department’s Thomaston Fire Academy training, arrived quickly and applied their recent hose-handling practice.

They deployed a hose line to put out the debris fire.

This incident provided a real-world example of how training can be applied in emergency situations.

Recent academy sessions covered apparatus operations and water supply techniques, including the use of large-diameter hose and hydrant operations.

The department has consistently focused on training and maintaining operational readiness.

Thomaston Fire & EMS reported 185 calls for service in 2025, which included incidents such as fires, vehicle crashes, hazardous materials events, and other emergencies.

The event highlighted how regular practice helps firefighters be better prepared for everyday calls.
