Academy Members Practiced Hydrant Operations

Thomaston, ME — August 17 — Thomaston Fire & EMS Academy 001 carried on with its water supply training on Monday, focusing on the use of large-diameter hose (LDH).The session began with a classroom session that reviewed the history and operations related to water supply.

Firefighters practiced deploying LDH from a hydrant to deliver water to a fire scene.

They also worked on forward hose lays, connecting to hydrants, and using the department’s hydrant assist valve.This tool provided crews with additional options for managing water supply during operations.

This training was the first of two sessions dedicated to water supply training.

The exercises helped firefighters become more familiar with the equipment and improved coordination between fire apparatus and hydrants. Water supply plays a key role in fireground operations in Thomaston.
