Members Completed Water Rescue Practice

Johnson, VT — August 22 — Johnson Fire Department personnel participated in two training sessions designed to enhance their skills in operating water rescue boats, ensuring preparedness for any water-related emergencies they might encounter.
The first session focused on understanding the features of the boats, their maintenance, and how to troubleshoot common problems.
This allowed the team to thoroughly examine the equipment and practice resolving typical issues before using the boats in real water conditions.
In the second session, held at Lake Eden, firefighters engaged in practical exercises involving boat maneuvering, kayak handling, and patient recovery techniques.
These hands-on activities enabled the team to become more familiar with the rescue equipment and rehearse essential procedures that could be required during an actual rescue operation.
Water rescue remains a key part of the department’s response capabilities.
As outlined in the Town of Johnson's municipal plan, the department maintains a dedicated water rescue team as part of its emergency services.In 2023, the department responded to 31 water rescue calls, and in 2024, to nine such incidents.
The training aligns with the department’s ongoing commitment to preserving and refining its rescue capabilities.
