Pawlet, VT - A two-vehicle head-on collision temporarily shut down Route 30 in both directions Friday afternoon, prompting an interstate mutual aid response from Vermont and New York first responders.

Emergency personnel were dispatched under motor vehicle collision protocol at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, following reports of a head-on crash on Route 30 within the West Pawlet district. Units from the West Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department responded alongside the Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department, the Granville Rescue Squad, and Granville Engine & Hose Co. No. 1 across the nearby New York state line.

The first-arriving West Pawlet command officer confirmed that no occupants were trapped inside the wreckage. Granville Fire apparatus ER-282 was diverted to manage traffic control at the intersection of Route 30 and North Pawlet Road, while Pawlet fire personnel established an additional diversion point at Route 30 and River Road during the full highway closure.

Paramedics from Granville EMS evaluated both motorists, transporting one driver to an area hospital for further medical care while the second driver was evaluated and cleared at the scene after declining transport.

Once primary scene hazards were mitigated, responders opened alternating one-way traffic to ease congestion while Vermont State Police investigated the collision and Paul’s Towing removed the damaged vehicles. Crews cleared remaining roadway debris, reopened both lanes to regular travel, and returned all units to service by 6:05 p.m.
