Newport Fire Conducts Rescue Training on Beebe Spur

September 9, 2026 — Newport, Vermont: Recently, members of the Newport Fire Department practiced rescue operations on the Beebe Spur Rail Trail, concentrating on spots that may be challenging for conventional emergency vehicles to reach.
UTV operations, patient packing, Stokes basket operations, and transporting simulated patients across challenging terrain and restricted access regions were all covered in the training.
The Beebe Spur Rail Trail follows the eastern side of Lake Memphremagog for approximately four miles between Newport and Derby. All year long, people utilize the state-owned path for transportation and enjoyment. Members of the Lowell Volunteer Fire Department provided a Stokes basket wheel arrangement for the exercise, and the department also trained with them. During the exercise, Newport firemen were permitted to use the equipment by Capt. Brandon T. and Lt. Adam C.
According to the department, the event gave participants practical experience with equipment familiarization, collaboration, and patient mobility in locations where access may be restricted.
