Eric Pelletier Named Bangor Fire Chief

August 11, 2026 — Bangor, Maine: Eric Pelletier, the deputy chief, has been appointed as the new head of the Bangor Fire Department by the Bangor City Council. Pelletier was confirmed for the role by a unanimous vote of the council on Monday nite.

Since joining the Bangor Fire Department in 2005, Pelletier has advanced through the ranks. In 2015, he received a promotion to lieutenant; in 2018, he was made captain; later that year, he was appointed Bangor's first deputy chief. Since June, he had been acting as the interim chief.

Pelletier worked for the Hermon Fire Department and the Waterville Fire-Rescue before joining Bangor. He has a Bachelor of Science in Fire Administration and has participated in fire service associations, such as the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the Penobscot County Fire Chiefs' Association. Pelletier was joined for the announcement by members of the Bangor Fire Department, mutual-aid departments, his wife Lindsay and son Evan.

As chief, Pelletier said public and firefighter safety will remain priorities, along with fire prevention, emergency preparedness, community relationships and professional development. The City of Bangor identifies Pelletier as the current fire chief on its official department page.
