Norway Firefighters Complete Open Water Rescue Technician Training

September 6, 2026 — Norway, Maine: Open aquatic Rescue Technician training was completed on Sunday by Norway Fire and a member of the Norway Police Department, enhancing their preparedness for aquatic emergencies.
A 100-yard open-water swim, using personal flotation devices in the water, rescuer survival, tethered-victim rescues, combative-victim rescues, and submerged-victim rescues were all addressed in the training.
Additionally, participants received training in small-boat operations and spinal immobilization rescues for victims in the water.
Assistant Chief Gunter and Firefighter Gardner were praised by Norway Fire for their roles as teachers and for assisting local responders be ready for water rescue missions.
The neighborhood is served by the Norway Fire Department, a paid-call organization that offers fire and emergency response services.
