HOPE, ME — AUGUST 19 — The Hope Fire Department conducted a search and rescue training exercise that emphasized interior searches, navigating in low visibility conditions, and moving through narrow spaces.During the session, crews constructed simulated walls and covered their face masks to limit visibility as they searched a room for a training victim.Firefighters also practiced maneuvering through a tunnel while wearing full personal protective equipment and self-contained breathing apparatus.

The training aimed to develop essential skills that may be required during a structure fire, such as effective communication, maintaining orientation, controlled movement, and locating victims.

Practicing in reduced visibility conditions also prepared crews to perform effectively in environments affected by smoke.

The Hope Fire Department has consistently maintained regular training and has collaborated with neighboring departments through mutual-aid agreements.

Town records indicated that the department has continued joint training with local agencies.In the past, regional departments including Camden, Lincolnville, and Rockport have participated in joint training exercises and coordinated responses during emergencies.
