SUTTON, VT — August 11 — The East Burke Fire Brigade offered assistance in Sutton on August 11 following a 911 text alert that indicated someone was trapped in a hiking trail area. The emergency message included a cell phone location signal, which helped narrow down the search region for responders.

Firefighters from the East Burke Fire Brigade, based at 195 VT-114 in East Burke, used their remote-rescue equipment to support local emergency personnel.

The department was recognized by the Burke Area Chamber for its services in public safety, fire suppression, and remote rescue operations.

This incident highlighted a type of backcountry response that demanded responders to operate with restricted vehicle access and limited location data. The department has also consistently maintained remote-rescue capabilities for incidents occurring in the area's trail systems.
