MONMOUTH, ME — AUGUST 27 — The Monmouth Fire Department carried out search and rescue training at Whittier Woods, located off Launch Drive, on August 27.This exercise gave firefighters a chance to practice their skills in a wooded setting.

The training emphasized search and rescue operations, allowing department members to work through scenarios that may be encountered during real emergencies involving missing, injured, or stranded individuals.

Practicing in different terrains enabled firefighters to improve communication, teamwork, search techniques, and the ability to access patients.

Search and rescue continues to be a vital component of emergency response in Maine, where local agencies and trained teams assist with incidents involving people who are lost or injured in forests and remote areas.

The Maine Fire Service Institute also includes specific search and rescue training as part of its Firefighter I and II courses.

The Monmouth Fire Department serves the communities of Monmouth, North Monmouth, and surrounding areas with an all-volunteer staff and regularly conducts training to keep their operational abilities up to date.

The Whittier Woods training offered department members another chance to practice search and rescue procedures before they might be needed during an actual emergency call.
