BURLINGTON, Vt. — September 4 —The Burlington Fire Department honored Battalion Chief of Training and Safety Adam Savoy for completing his first year in the department's Training and Safety leadership role and successfully earning his commission.

Savoy was responsible for assisting firefighters and officers in preparing for various emergency operations, including fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials, technical rescue, and other critical tasks.

The Training and Safety Division of the department has consistently focused on maintaining operational skills and enhancing firefighter safety through ongoing education, practical training exercises, and after-action reviews.

Throughout Savoy’s time in the role, the department continued to provide hands-on training for specialized response scenarios.

In 2026, Burlington firefighters trained for ice-water rescues on Lake Champlain and practiced advanced rooftop rope rescue techniques.Savoy also placed a strong emphasis on preparing for low-frequency, high-risk events, ensuring that members developed the necessary skills before such incidents occurred.

The department expressed its congratulations to Savoy for reaching the one-year milestone and successfully completing the commission process as a chief officer.
