Burlington, Vt. — September 25 — The Burlington Fire Department responded to a second-alarm structure fire at 46 Linden Terrace in Burlington’s South End on September 25, 2026, following a report of a fire inside a single-family home.
The department was dispatched at 1:23 p.m. Initial information suggested the fire started in the living room of the one-story house. All the people living in the home had left before the first fire engine arrived, but two cats were reported missing.
Firefighters noticed heavy smoke coming from the front door and requested a second alarm. Off-duty Burlington firefighters were called in, and mutual-aid crews from South Burlington, Winooski, and Colchester also arrived on the scene. UVM Rescue provided emergency coverage for the city.
Firefighters carried out an interior attack and conducted primary searches to find the missing animals. Both cats were located, and attempts were made to resuscitate them, but the efforts were not successful.
The fire was brought under control quickly. The Burlington Fire Department urged residents to keep smoke alarms working on every level of their homes and outside sleeping areas. Officials also advised testing the alarms monthly and replacing batteries as needed.
