JAY, NY — September 1 — Members of the Jay Volunteer Fire Department and the Upper Jay Volunteer Fire Department carried out a combined training exercise on September 1.The session involved a simulated rescue operation where firefighters responded to a situation in which a person was trapped underneath a heavy log.

The training scenario was designed to mimic real-life incidents such as a tree falling on someone or logs rolling over a person.

During the exercise, firefighters practiced techniques related to stabilizing the area, gaining access to the trapped individual, and safely removing the obstruction.They also explored various methods for handling a round object that might move or shift during an operation.

Firefighters also trained with a HURST electric spreader, examining its usefulness in technical rescue situations.

HURST explains that its eDRAULIC rescue tools utilize electro-hydraulic technology, which generates hydraulic force without the need for conventional hydraulic hoses.

The collaborative training session provided an opportunity for firefighters from both departments to share their approaches, discuss the challenges they faced, and create new training scenarios for future use.

According to New York State records, both Jay and Upper Jay are recognized as fire departments operating in Essex County.
