PORT BYRON, NY — August 31 — The Port Byron Fire Department, also referred to as Protective Hose Company No.1, carried on its orientation training for new recruits on August 31.The session focused on patient movement and becoming acquainted with the department’s equipment.

Firefighters participated alongside EMTs to learn and practice safe ways of lifting and transporting patients.

The training emphasized teamwork and correct techniques that are essential during medical emergencies and rescue situations.

New firefighters also had the chance to review the tools found on the fire truck, helping them understand the various pieces of equipment and how they can be used during actual emergencies.

Ongoing hands-on training is vital for firefighters to gain confidence with the department’s gear and to refresh fundamental skills before they are needed in real situations.

Training guidelines for the fire service also suggest using the equipment found on responding vehicles during company drills.This repeated practice enhances familiarity and improves how efficiently the equipment is used in real incidents.
