From Drill Ground to Fireground: Pittsford Crews Strengthen Core Operations Through Hands-On Training

Pittsford, VT - Members of the Pittsford Fire Department took advantage of favorable summer weather to conduct a series of structured drill nights focused on core operational skills and team readiness.


Throughout the training sessions, crews rotated through multiple hands-on evolutions including vehicle extrication techniques, ground ladder operations, aerial ladder familiarization, pump operations, water supply setup, and driver/operator training. Each segment was designed to reinforce fundamentals while improving coordination and efficiency under working conditions.


The training, conducted on 7 August in Rutland County, emphasized repetition and practical application, allowing members to build confidence in both individual tasks and coordinated team responses. Focus was placed on sharpening decision-making, improving apparatus handling, and strengthning overall scene effectiveness.


By the conclusion of the drill series, members had completed a well-rounded refresher across key fireground functions, suporting ongoing readiness and enhancing overall department capability through consistent hands-on practice.
