SANBORN, NY — August 27 — Firefighters from Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company Inc.and St.Johnsburg Fire Company Inc.held a combined training session prior to Shawnee’s upcoming demolition derby.The exercise focused on the strategies involved in the event, including the preparation of derby vehicles before they enter competition.Firefighters also practiced techniques for extinguishing vehicle fires and gained experience working alongside members from the other fire company.

This training gave crews the chance to better understand each other’s equipment, procedures, and how operations are conducted at the scene of a fire.

It also allowed members to review tactics for handling vehicle-related fires that could be useful during other emergency situations.

Shawnee Volunteer Fire Company is a fully volunteer-run organization that serves the Wheatfield area and surrounding communities in Niagara County.

The company operates from two stations and offers fire protection, emergency medical services, and mutual-aid support.

St.

Johnsburg Fire Company was founded in 1926 and provides fire suppression, fire prevention, motor-vehicle crash response, and emergency medical services.The company emphasized that ongoing training is a key part of its commitment to improving emergency care.

The joint training took place just two days before Shawnee’s scheduled demolition derby and car show on August 29 at the fire company’s location on Lockport Road.

The event featured various derby classes and a car show.

For the emergency crews, the training offered a hands-on way to prepare for the event while also building stronger partnerships between the neighboring fire departments.
