NIAGARA FALLS, NY — August 15 — Pump operators from Lewiston Fire Company No.2 participated in a training session focused on drafting water from a static source using a portable Fold-a-Tank.

The exercise allowed operators to familiarize themselves with each of the company’s fire engines and practice the necessary steps to set up a water supply from a static source.

During the drill, crews went through the entire drafting process while maintaining their proficiency in operating the equipment they might be assigned during an actual emergency.

Drafting water from a static source can be a crucial method when a reliable pressurized water supply is unavailable.

It is essential for pump operators to understand the equipment, setup procedures, and controls required to establish and sustain water flow.

The Fire Safety Research Institute includes topics such as water distribution and hose-stream operations in its fire-service training programs, and it aligns its curriculum with current NFPA standards for firefighter instruction.

Lewiston Fire Company No.2 is a volunteer organization that provides fire and emergency medical services in the Town of Lewiston.It is also a member of the Niagara County Mutual Aid Agreement.The company was established in 1942 and operates from 1705 Saunders Settlement Road.

The training on August 15 gave pump operators another chance to work with their apparatus, reinforce their knowledge of water-supply procedures, and maintain a fundamental fireground skill ahead of its potential use in a real incident.
