Arkport, NY — July 30 — Firefighters from Arkport Hose Co.#1 Inc. participated in interior fireground operations on July 30 as part of a training drill that included simulated smoke, search techniques, and a mock victim scenario.

The team first filled the department's smokehouse trailer with artificial smoke, then sent teams inside to find a “baby doll” that served as the training victim.

This exercise allowed firefighters to practice searching in low-visibility conditions while navigating an unfamiliar interior space.

The department, based at 6 Park Avenue in Arkport, used the drill to strengthen basic interior search skills and enhance crew coordination.

Training in smoky environments helps firefighters practice maintaining their sense of direction, communicating with their team, and locating victims when visibility is limited.
