GROTON, NY — July 30, 2026 — On Wednesday nite, members of the Groton Fire Department and Ambulance worked with the department's new fire engine to practice water supply and pump operations.

Firefighters had the chance to familiarize themselves with the equipment and practice setting up and maintaining a water supply during the drafting and pumping drill.

When a pressurized municipal water supply is not available or when water must be obtained from a static source, drafting is a critical ability for engine workers. In order for the engine to deliver a reliable supply to assault cews, firefighters must comprehend the apparatus, pump controls, intake configuration, and water flow.
